Investigar y proporcionar información relevante sobre la epidemiología del cáncer en nuestro país y sus determinantes, desde una perspectiva de salud pública dirigida al control y la prevención de este conjunto de enfermedades. Unidad de Epidemiología del Cáncer y Ambiental.
Objetivos:
-Monitorizar la situación del cáncer en España, su evolución, las diferencias geográficas observadas y los posibles determinantes de las mismas.
-Profundizar en el conocimiento de las causas del cáncer, principalmente de los factores ambientales (no hereditarios) y su interacción con los determinantes genéticos con vistas a la prevención. Las actividades del grupo que recogen y amplían la experiencia del Servicio de Epidemiología del Cáncer, creado en 1991, cubren un amplio rango de temas en investigación etiológica de diferentes formas de cáncer y en el desarrollo de métodos innovadores de diseño de estudios y análisis de datos. La mayoría de las actividades integran investigadores y grupos externos al instituto y pertenecientes a diferentes disciplinas. El grupo pertenece al CIBER de Epidemiología y Salud Pública (CIBERESP), formando parte del Comité de Dirección del mismo.
