Epidemiología de Enfermedades Cardiovasculares y Metabólicas
El área desarrolla investigación centrada en:
a) La monitorización de estas enfermedades y sus factores de riesgo,
b) en la identificación de nuevos factores de riesgo asociados a las mismas y
c) en la profundización sobre los mecanismos biológicos por los que éstos pueden producir enfermedades cardiovasculares. Dentro de estas líneas se presta una especial atención a la monitorización de factores de riesgo ya conocidos, como son el tabaquismo, el consumo de alcohol o el sedentarismo, así como al estudio de las condiciones socioeconómicas y ambientales del área de residencia en el estado de salud de la población adulta española. Otra de las líneas de trabajo de mayor proyección es el estudio del papel de los metales como factor de riesgo tanto para las enfermedades como para el cáncer. Esta Unidad tiene una estrecha e íntima relación con la de Cáncer, dada la similitud de muchos de los factores de riesgo entre ambos tipos de procesos.Los miembros de esta Unidad pertenecen a los equipos de investigación de diferentes cohortes de gran interés en este campo como son el Estudio Longitudinal de Obesidad Infantil (ELOIN), en colaboración con la Consejería de Salud de la Comunidad de Madrid, o las cohortes Aragon Workers Health Study (Instituto Aragonés de Ciencias de la Salud, CNIC, General Motors) y Estudio Hortega (INCLIVA, H.Rio Hortega) que evalúan riesgos asociados a la aparición de diversos eventos cardiovasculares.
