El grupo dedica su actividad a la investigación aplicada en salud pública en el ámbito de la infección por el VIH, otras infecciones de transmisión sexual (ITS) y hepatitis B y C, tanto en la población general como en poblaciones especialmente vulnerables a estas infecciones. Para ello se utilizan diversas fuentes de datos integradas en el Sistema de Información de VIH en España y fuentes secundarias, así como la puesta en marcha de estudios específicos. Estas líneas de trabajo se desarrollan en colaboración con Comunidades Autónomas, centros monográficos de diagnóstico de VIH e ITS, otros centros del ISCIII, ONG, así como con el Centro Europeo de Prevención y Control de Enfermedades (ECDC). Formamos parte del CIBER de enfermedades infecciosas (CIBERINFEC). Las líneas de trabajo responden a los objetivos marcados por organismos internacionales como ONUSIDA y ECDC y están enmarcadas en el Plan estratégico de prevención y control de la infección por VIH y otras ITS del Ministerio de Sanidad.
Misión
Nuestra misión es mejorar el conocimiento epidemiológico de la infección por el VIH, otras ITS y las hepatitis B y C, mediante la vigilancia epidemiológica y la investigación, al objeto de proporcionar información relevante y de calidad que sirva para el diseño, implementación y evaluación de políticas de prevención y control de estas infecciones.
Las enfermedades bajo vigilancia que se incluyen son la infección por el VIH, sífilis, sífilis congénita, infección gonocócica, infección por Chlamydia trachomatis, linfogranuloma venéreo, mpox y las hepatitis B y C.
