Services
The Unit is responsible of providing the information necessary for the control of communicable diseases. The professionals of the Unit are experts in the epidemiology and control of communicable diseases of public health relevance. They analyze surveillance data, evaluate the impact of public health interventions, and disseminate the results to decision-makers in the areas of prevention and control.

Activities
- Management of epidemiological surveillance of communicable diseases.
- Technical advice through participation in national expert committees for the development of communicable disease prevention and control plans that guide public health decision-making.
- Participation in international expert groups and European surveillance networks. Contribution to international surveillance.
- National and international institutional representation.
- Public health research. Membership of the CIBER for Epidemiology and Public Health and the CIBER for infectious diseases.
- Training activities. Teaching, mentoring resident interns (MIRs), doctoral students, EPIET, and EUPHEM, among others.

Our mission is to conduct epidemiological and public health research to provide quality information to guide the control and prevention of communicable diseases, as well as the design, implementation, and evaluation of health policies.
The Communicable Disease Surveillance and Research Unit is comprised of several research subunits.
